„KOPA's publications are traditionally among the most attractive books of the year“

A good result is satisfying in itself, but the accolades from competitions only reinforce this emotion. The results of the Book Art competition have recently been announced: the most beautiful books published in Lithuania in 2020 were presented and selected. The competition, organised by the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Lithuania, encourages and promotes the best artists, illustrators, designers, publishers and printers in the country. This year, 55 publishers submitted 118 books to the competition.

In accordance with the decision of the jury, the main prize of the 2020 Book Art competition was awarded to Agnė Dautartaitė-Krutulė for design as an effective part of scientific research expression and as a secret camera in Natalia Arlauskaitė's book Nuožmi taika: žlugusių režimų fotografija dokumentiniame kine (published by Vilnius University Press, printed by UAB Standartų spaustuvė).

The publications were evaluated in different thematic groups: fiction and essays; children's books; scientific and subject books and textbooks; art publications (monographs, catalogues, albums); art and documentary photography publications; and bibliophilic and experimental publications. It is particularly pleasing that this year's winners include two publications issued in our printing house in 2020, which won a prize and a diploma in their categories.

It has become a tradition that the cordial friendship we have with Kaunas Photography Gallery has brought exceptional publications, interesting challenges and pleasant evaluations for a number of years. The prize was awarded to Inga Navickaitė-Drąsutė in the artistic and documentary photography publications category for the multi-layered impact of artistic research and form of expression in the book Joan Fontcuberta: Crisis of History (compiled by Alison Nordström and Cale Gariddo; published by Kaunas Photography Gallery).
